SISE is UIC’s annual multi-disciplinary energy business program where students from all over the country with different academic backgrounds come to solve some of the toughest 21st century energy challenges through a two-week, intensive workshop and lecture series. SISE is championed by Dr. George Crabtree, senior scientist with Argonne National Labs and the Director of their Joint Center for Energy Storage Research.
This year’s theme is “Digital Rebirth” and SISE participants will explore the crossroads of digital manufacturing, smart cities, and energy, dive deep into specific applications such as smart grid and the connected vehicle, and theorize how these innovations can usher in a more sustainable future. SISE graduates leave as thoughtful and informed global citizens with a firm foundation and expanded network for careers in sustainability, energy, and smart technology and infrastructure.
This year the program has grown to include a fabulous new partner, UI Labs. UI Labs is developing a portfolio of applied research and commercialization Labs that lead to a return on investment for its partners and improve local, regional and national competitiveness.
SISE is an integral program to Evergreen Climate Innovations’ broader mission of helping students turn technologies into businesses and fueling a clean energy revolution across the Midwest. Evergreen Climate Innovations’ staff and network have acted as mentors and judges to SISE participants, providing real world feedback and inspiring new thinking.
We are so grateful to our network of mentors, advisors, and professionals for helping us develop the Midwest clean energy economy and to UIC for letting us be a part of this innovative program. Thanks for everything you do!
